Dud

Dud

I tried to make a Hot Chocolate Cookie, I found on Facebook.  They don't look like the picture, but taste good.  I couldn't find mini candy canes so I had to substitute, medium size, cherry-flavored canes.  I had nine, semi-decent cookies for Christmas  dinner and enough fudge for three mini-pie tins.

...the duds:

 So, so ones...

     the nicest ones...
 ...the best
 my fudge.

Work

Work

I have my work cut out for me.   A few things a friend sent me.  The rest I found at estate/yard/craft sales.  A large batch of whole and broken jewelry...bracelets, pins, earrings, buttons and necklaces.
I just finished taking off the ear backings and any other appendages.  Next....
1.)  Grind, sand and smooth sharp edges.
    2.)  Wash/clean/polish
3.)   Add colorless, fingernail polish to any parts that have lost their polish, on the back side (prevents any reaction to sensitive skin from the pot metal).
4.)  Reattach any loose stones/pearls and tighten prongs.
5.)  Add any colored fingernail polished to plain areas or areas needing attention.
    6.)  Start embellishment tatting.

NOTE:  this is a very small amount of old jewelry, for tatting.  I have a huge stash in an old makeup box.  Like thread and shuttles, never pass up an opportunity to expand the lot.

Trink Box

Trinket Box

Had to make a few more, to replace the ones that sold at my shows.  These are fun to make, but take a day and a half to make

Note....for those having trouble with the "Icy Blue Snowflake,"  I added a few notes at the bottom of the pattern.

Last

Last

Last batch of rocks to hide.  I didn't wait for the paint to fully cure, before I added the top coat...causing the colors to bleed.

Icy Blue Snowflake

Icy Blue Snowflake

I've had many request for this pattern.  I designed it April 2010...whew seems like ages ago.   An early Christmas Present...

 Ice Blue Snowflake

Supplies:
Size 80 Tatting Thread
1 – Shuttle, Large
144 (plus extra for the hanger) – 11/0 Seed Beads

Procedure:  Any size thread/beads can be substituted.  All rings and chains are composed of five double stitches.

Load 144 – seed beads onto the ball.  Slide 96 – of these seed beads on to the shuttle, as you wind it up.

Tat around, according to the diagram.  Cut ends, leaving a 12” tail.  Add seed beads to the tail, for desired length.  Tie ends and enjoy.

NOTE:

For those of you having trouble with the pattern...this might help.

It is complected, at first, if you are not used to tatting with beads.

So lets start:

R1:  slide up four beads on to your working thread, from your shuttle.  Tat 5-5  (slide three of the beads up, from working thread, the ring you are making; and slide up one bead from your shuttle.) 5 - 5. close ring (when you close the ring, one bead will be on the bottom of the ring.)

C1:  slide up one bead from your shuttle.  tat 5 (slide three beads up from the ball and one from the shuttle) 5 ds.   slide up one bead from your shuttle.

R2:  slide up four beads on to your working thread, from you shuttle.  Tat 5 + (joint to the last picot of R1) 5ds (slide three of the beads up, from working thread, the ring you are making, and slide up one bead from your shuttle.) 5 - 5. close ring (when you close the ring, one bead will be on the bottom of the ring.

C2:  slide up one bead from your shuttle and one from you ball.  tat 5 (slide three beads up from the ball and one from the shuttle) 5 ds.   slide up one bead from your shuttle.

continue around.

Once done, you will have a bead on the shuttle thread and one on the ball.  Slide up the beads and lockjoin the shuttle thread to the start of R1.  Lockjoin the ball thread to the other side of the ring (bead).  See the diagram.

the numbers in green are you ds
the numbers in red are the beads from the shuttle
the numbers in blue are the beads from the ball.
